“Biem-vindo a Belém!”
29 January 2009 – “Bem-vindo a Belém!”
By Laura Stefanelli
These are the first words that I’ve heard here in Belém. My second day at the WSF started at 6h20 am, because of the sun and humid temperature. But there are already people out. I have the feeling that this WSF is much for Brazilians themselves and marginalized peoples. Brazilians from all over the country are here with their messages and their hope to discover their own country. Indigenous and marginalized peoples alone or accompanied are here to convey their messages and their hopes. At the same time, local folks of Belem’s City have discovered ways to sell anything from Para State.
With the mixture of skin colours, I sometime feel like a ‘white minority’. How encouraging and energizing to see enthusiasm spread over the Forum and experiencing different ways of expressing new ideas.
